I have had the pleasure of working as Ms. Jones' weekend nurse manager for the last 1.5 years at a Rehab/Long-term Care Nursing Home in Greenville. During this time, I have watched Davina take on and conquer some difficult challenges in her scope of practice. She is so eager to learn and is well respected by her peers. She takes constructive criticism well and sees it as an opportunity to learn even more. She is also loved by her residents and family members and it shows in the care she provides. In between passing medications and documenting, Davina often find the time to put make-up on her residents and curl their hair. In particular, she has grown fund of a young resident who unfortunately suffered a CVA. This resident had shut completely down and given up until she met Davina. This resident now talks, laughs, and is a burst of sunshine. Her laugh is contagious! Whenever Davina is around, she lights up like a ball of fire. This is what nursing is about. Its the small tasks that makes a "good nurse standout". While I am sure you will have many student nurses to apply for this Award, I cannot think of a better person than Ms. Jones. I often tell her "nursing is in your blood".
