He took his time teaching me and blocked quite a bit of time to prepare me for when I was discharged and had to do it on my own.
Davis Ruhl provided exceptional care for me more than once. I could always trust him with my care, especially when it came to teaching me how to change my colostomy bag and wafer. He took his time teaching me and blocked quite a bit of time to prepare me for when I was discharged and had to do it on my own. The thing that sticks out the most to me was when there was a mistake, and I was put on restricted movement. Davis was sure a mistake had been made and started making calls to the appropriate leadership. It was confirmed that a mistake had been made. In my almost three months at the hospital, Davis was the best nurse I had. Davis made this place feel familiar when he was my nurse. We connected and told jokes, and it made it feel a little bit like the good old days in the military. He showed me tremendous amounts of respect by preparing me for my discharge date. He taught me the intricacies of ostomy care. He showed me tips for changing the wafer better when I am alone. He was also the only nurse who had changed my wafer and bag to get it to stay on and seal it for four days. Until then, neither the nurse nor I could get the wafer to stay sealed for more than a day or two. Davis took the time to properly clean my stoma and show me how to prevent mistakes that were previously made. Between advocating for me, showing me proper care, preparing me for discharge, and the connection he had with me and what I saw with other patients, Davis, in my opinion, strives to provide excellent care for us veterans. It is very clear that he cares and strives to be the best nurse that he can be.
