Dawn Chaplin, BSN, RN

The OR has been extremely busy during call hours this year. More often than not, we are asked to stay past our shift. Dawn consistently stays and helps the team. She has a lot to do at home, but she understands the importance of helping the team and supporting where she can. For example, this week the call crew was scheduled to be here until 4 in the morning for a 22-hour continuous shift. Dawn went out of her way to help where she could to keep the team ahead of schedule. She then stayed behind an extra 2 hours to help coordinate and run two ORs past five so the call team wouldn't be here until 4 am. Her efforts saved the team 2 hours, and they were able to leave the hospital at 2 am instead. They were so grateful.

Burnout is real in our department, and many people struggle with feeling supported. Dawn has a good heart and wants to take care of her team. They feel that and are grateful for her efforts. Dawn is always thinking of her patients as well. She stays clinically up to date with best practices and continually makes changes in our department to protect patient safety. She is stellar!
