A patient called after having a nurse administered procedure In the Endoscopy Department. She stated she was just overwhelmed by the exceptional care she received from her nurses Dawn and Roberta. She said she almost decided not to have the test and even almost walked out while in the waiting area. She stated Dawn and Roberta put her at ease right away by their calm and welcoming demeanor. The patient had a lot of questions right away and was extremely anxious about what would happen during the testing. Dawn and Roberta made her feel safe by listening patiently and addressing all her questions and concerns. Throughout the procedure she witnessed such exceptional professionalism and teamwork the patient was awed by it. She stated their compassionate care was truly overwhelming.

What could have been a frightening experience turned out to be a very good experience. After receiving such wonderful care, the patient had the courage to reschedule another appointment that she had previously canceled. She expressed that she wanted to see both Dawn and Roberta recognized for the great care they gave her. When I told her about the DAISY Award she voiced that she would be very grateful to have them nominated and stated "I can't think of more deserving nurses to get an award".

As the Nurse Manager of Endoscopy I was thrilled, and not the least bit surprised, to hear about this patient's experience. Roberta and Dawn consistently strive to give the best care and display exceptional compassion in their nursing practice every day. They display excellent patient advocacy and deliver nursing care with admirable compassion.
