On this particular night, we were working a little short with no PCT. We had three nurses on and had an emergent event at shift change. Fortunately, the day shift teal was still on the unit to offer assistance. We called a rapid response that lasted at least 45 minutes. Once the situation was settled I looked at my watch and was concerned that I hadn't been able to see my other patients. Dawn was working this night and was a lifesaver. She came up to me and said "Teletracking is done, your vitals are done and I gave X pain medicine." I was speechless, she went out of her way to handle charge duties, watch the floor, care for her patients and mine without ever being asked. Dawn is a true example of teamwork and I am proud to have her on our team. She not only cared for her patient during this shift she cared for me and supported me as her peer. Everyone should be so lucky as to have a nurse like this on their team.
