Dawn Nordhoff, RN

Dawn Nordhoff is the kind of nurse and charge nurse whose name on the staffing list brings a sigh of relief. Her organization, strong work ethic, and genuine passion for leading by example are just a few qualities that make her a phenomenal charge nurse. I am truly inspired by her. Recently, Dawn and I worked several consecutive shifts together; she was the day shift charge nurse on 5E, while I covered the night shift. The first shift when she gave me a charge report was exceptionally challenging. Dawn knew I had a tough day at home before work and set my shift up for success, despite staffing shortages and a high level of acuity. Her kind words and actions brought me to tears. How amazing it is that she took the time to encourage me and make my shift easier! She could have simply handed over the charge nurse report and left her shift. Instead, she personified what it means to be a compassionate and sincere nurse by caring for her team. When she returned the next morning to receive my report, she offered to buy me a drink to help keep me awake on my drive home. She even suggested calling me on my way home to ensure I wouldn’t fall asleep while driving. I am so grateful for this nurse! She motivates me to become a better nurse. Nursing is not just about patient care; it’s also about being the best co-worker you can be!
