Dawn Schneider, RN
Dawn has been my Pre-Op nurse for three surgeries so far. She has always been patient, kind, and calming for both myself and my family when we are at Oakwood. Dawn has also been an amazing patient advocate for me on multiple occasions. I can’t see anything without my glasses and when Dawn noticed I had anxiety that I would not be able to see the OR and who was in it with me, she advocated for me to be able to keep on my glasses until I had transferred to the OR table. She labeled my glasses case and it was placed in my patient belonging bag under the stretcher after I moved over. This small act left me in a much calmer state when I was being put to sleep and greatly improved my immediate post-op recovery. Also, even though I have had over 15 surgeries, Dawn always thoroughly explains what she is doing and treats it like it is my first time. I find it really reassuring that she never tries to cut a corner, it makes me feel valued and safe. Dawn is truly deserving of this award and it would only show a small amount of the gratitude my family and I have for her.
