June 2021 Honoree
Dawn Vawter, RN
One day, my coworker Dawn was driving her daughter to soccer practice. She was driving beside a section of the Pinellas Trail in Keystone when suddenly a car began to veer in and out of traffic and attempted to pass in a no-pass zone heading straight towards her. Dawn was able to veer off the road to avoid being hit head-on, but the driver caused another car to overturn and careen into a couple riding a tandem bike on the trail. As shaken and stunned as Dawn was, she immediately ran from her vehicle to assist the bikers. Dawn began CPR on one of the victims while instructing bystanders to move the other victim and concentrate only on chest compressions. Providing guidance and direction in a crisis, although her efforts were in vain. Dawn showed true courage in rushing over to help. More importantly, she is an example of a Heroine to her daughter and coworkers.
Thank you, Dawn, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
