If a machine beeped once, Dawson was there. He made sure everything was organized, precise, and efficient. He consistently checked in on my father and kept us incredibly informed. Down to every little detail Dawson let us know what was happening and what would be happening. A lot of what Dawson was tasked with was keeping my father as alert as possible while still being under enough sedation to keep him comfortable. Not only did he make extremely frequent checks on my father in the night to ensure he was comfortable and did not wake up my mom, he would even stand outside the door and just watch as to not disturb my father. Dawson treated us like family. As if it were his own father in the bed. He would clean and adjust my dad’s glasses to make sure he could see everything when he woke up, he talked to my dad through everything. When Dawson was here- and only when he was here- my dad slept through the night despite extreme discomfort from being intubated and lowered sedation. Dawson was a light in a very dark tunnel for our family.
