May 2026 Honoree
Deanna A Gordon, MSN, RN
When Deanna learned it was a homeless patient’s birthday, she asked me if cakes were sold in the quick mart downstairs. We checked, and there weren’t any.
Later, when Deanna took her lunch break, she went to the store to find something special for the patient. She bought muffins and then gathered the other nurses and techs on the floor to sing “Happy Birthday” to the patient. By honoring her and making her feel special, the patient expressed that it was the nicest thing anyone has done for her in a long time. The floor nurses stated they had never done this for a patient before, either.
Deanna went above and beyond not only to recognize her patient’s birthday, but she also made sure this was something special that both the 8th floor staff and patient would remember for a long time.
