Even when all her patients were cared for and she was finished charting, Deanna would find something to teach me about.
I am a student Nurse and I was assigned to follow Nurse Deanna. While following Nurse Deanna, she demonstrated extraordinary care for her patients while also giving me a memorable clinical experience. Her knowledge of the many pathologies, medications, laboratory values, and surgical procedures was extensive, and she was very good at explaining them. Seeing how knowledgeable she is motivates me to study hard so I can be a competent and safe nurse like her.
Deanna’s care to give me a fulfilling clinical experience is something that really made her stand out from the other nurses. Even when all her patients were cared for and she was finished charting, she would find something to teach me about. She taught me about angiograms, nephrostomy, tracheostomy, thoracentesis, along with how to care for such patients and what to monitor closely. Having such a wise nurse allowed to me to learn a lot in such a short amount of time. Nurse Deanna is a DAISY Nurse because of her utmost care and compassion accompanied by her skills as a nurse.
