In the scariest time of our lives, she cared for my daughter in such a compassionate way.
My daughter, L was transferred to PICU on a Saturday morning when Deanna was just starting her shift. L had suffered a TBI and was having seizure-like episodes. Deanna was able to help me keep L calm and control her breathing. When her breathing got out of control or stopped, Deanna got her going again and kept me calm. I am legally L's Stepmom, but I am the only mom she has. While some nurses or doctors would consider me just a stepmom, she would point out to them that I was not just a stepmom. "I was her mom". In the scariest time of our lives, she cared for my daughter in such a compassionate way. She brushed the EEG gunk from her hair, and fought for me to sit next to L during the MRI scan when the techs told me I couldn’t. Our first 10 hours in the PICU were fast and furious, but she gave us comfort, and I knew my daughter was in THE BEST care. As we inched closer to leaving the hospital, I just imagined I would never see her again, but Deanna came to find us in PEDS to check on L. This shows that what she does from day to day is not just a job. She deserves recognition for going the extra mile, and showing such great compassion to not just her patients but the family. Please recognize this sweet lady for her care and compassion.
