Debbie was awesome. My child was headed into a procedure where she was going to potentially need a trach. She sat with me while I asked her questions through tears with a doll. She showed me pictures of her daughter’s trach and really made me feel that this was not the end of the world. She came out of surgery with no trach, but we were readmitted two weeks later and had to get a trach. Her teachings were really the difference between me being okay and very, very sad for my daughter. The fact that she shared her personal story made her special to me. She would be an amazing trach educator. Hearing someone share all the things trach patients can do was extremely helpful.
