We felt apprehensive about going through this again, but from the moment I spoke with Debbie before we came into hospital, she made me feel like I already knew her.
Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our baby who had a rare heart condition. Unfortunately, this was the second time we had to do this. It brought back some of the memories that were not so positive when we had to deliver our baby. We felt apprehensive about going through this again, but from the moment I spoke with Debbie before we came into hospital, she made me feel like I already knew her. She made me feel at ease and confident that she would do anything to try and make this childbirth a less traumatic experience for both of us. I knew she knew our story, our journey, and that made all the difference when we met her.
From the moment we arrived Debbie made my husband and me feel at ease. She had already prepared the room, got the equipment, and arranged for the anaesthetist to arrive swiftly to avoid any unnecessary waiting. She stood by us, supported us, held my hand, and gave me the strength to deliver our baby. Debbie even stayed after her shift had finished delivering our baby which we are so grateful for. This was a traumatic experience but we will never forget Debbie’s kindness and amazing support which is what got us through that difficult moment and in a strange way left us with a positive experience in such heartbreaking circumstances. This is why we are nominating this very special lady for The DAISY Award, to recognise Debbie for going above and beyond. She is a credit to any team she is working alongside and every patient she has contact with is very lucky to have her by their side. We really wish her all the best for the future.
