I just had my second son at Carle on March 30th. My first pregnancy did not go as planned and I developed severe preeclampsia. I ended up being induced at 35 weeks, after going through 12 hours of labor I ended up having an emergency C-section. After my surgery I had to be on medicine for the preeclampsia that made me feel very tired and out of it. This pregnancy I also developed preeclampsia but was not as severe and all of my doctors were very aware of my medical history, I ended up having my planned C-section moved up, due to the preeclampsia. This time I delivered at 37 weeks.

During my first stay the nurse that worked with me immediately after my surgery was so sweet. She took such great care of me. I was so out of it due to the medication I was on. I was unable to get out of bed due to the medicine. I felt like this nurse treated me like she would treat her own daughter.

Looking back on my 1st pregnancy I could have been very upset or frustrated that it was a scary, stressful delivery that did not go as I had planned but all I can think of is the kindness the nurse gave me during my recovery. This pregnancy I was so happy to realize that I had the same nurse that helped with my first pregnancy, Debbie Plankenhorn.

Knowing that Debbie was my nurse again this delivery just made me feel so relaxed because I knew I was in great hands. She treated my husband and my family so well. She was calm, cool, collected through the whole process. Every nurse that I have had at Carle has been great but I truly feel like Debbie is an exceptional nurse. A nurse that can make you feel so at ease is such an amazing comfort and shows how much experience she has, and how much she cares for her patients.

Thank you, Debbie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
