Debbie is currently working as a clinical strategist in US Consulting. Debbie has repeatedly demonstrated her professionalism and her passion for the nursing profession. I have had the opportunity to spend time shadowing Debbie on a client assignment in Sterling, Illinois. I have been impressed with Debbie’s ability to empathetically communicate with all of the health care team during a stressful time of conversion. Debbie takes the time to listen to each health care provider from the Unit Secretary, the nursing technician, the patient nursing staff, and any of the physicians present. While communicating with the health care team, Debbie reassures their emotions, pays close attention to their concerns, and shares with every individual her plan. She is very good about following up on all of her conversations with the staff. Aside from her excellent communication skills with the health care team, Debbie also is passionate for education and mentoring new Cerner associates. She takes the time to listen to individuals’ experiences, and as proven to be an advocate for the new employee. Her mentoring approach defines excellence in nursing education. Debbie provides the educational material needed for a new associate to be successful in his or her position. After providing the education, Debbie seeks to validate the associate’s experience, and actively seeks out additional opportunities for the associate to build upon their professional career. Debbie’s professionalism doesn’t stop at the end of an assignment however. As new opportunities have presented during the time after I left the client assignment, Debbie contacted me to share additional educational information, and to answer any additional questions that I may have thought of after leaving the client’s site. I found it to be a privilege to have Debbie work with me as I begin my career in an unfamiliar job, and know that I can go to her with any questions or advice that will help my professional growth. Debbie always maintains a smile, regardless of the situation. I have also had the opportunity to speak with other associates that have worked with Debbie, and learned that my experience was the exact replicate of their respective experiences with her. Debbie is a true advocate for nursing, and for nursing education.
