One of our post-transplant patients called right before the Christmas holiday and stated that he could no longer afford his immunosuppression drugs. While working to figure out how we can help this patient in the future, Debi Dumas-Hicks took it upon herself to call the pharmacy and pay for the patient’s medication upfront so that he would have three months' worth and not have to worry about it over the holidays. Debi always seems to go above and beyond for the well-being of her patients no matter the cost to her. She is a vital asset to this organization and the heart transplant team. I’ve never met anyone who cares as much as she does. She spearheads all of the fundraising and functions needed to make money for our athletes so that they can go to the games at no cost to them. She has been part of the Transplant family for almost 40 years. Her love and dedication for these patients and this department is unmatched.
