Deborah dropped what she was doing, came over to me, and gave me the biggest hug and cried right along with me.
I brought my husband to the Emergency Department. He is a cancer patient and a renal dialysis patient. The ED was extremely busy, and all of the staff could not have been any nicer than they were; however, one stood out amongst the rest. She had already worked her scheduled shift and had stayed over to help with the admitted patients still being cared for in the ED. After she got my husband settled, she went over to him and said, "Your angel is right beside you, and you could not have picked a better Bride". I was already emotional and burst into tears. The nurse was so caring and loving toward him after an already long day. The nurse dropped what she was doing, came over to me, and gave me the biggest hug and cried right along with me. Now, as you can imagine, we have been through a lot, some good, some bad, and some ugly. But this was by far the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me while dealing with my husband's illness. She almost had to pick me up off the floor. This nurse may not ever understand what she did for ME that day, let alone what she did for the possibly hundreds of lives she touches on a daily basis. I know things are really tough with the virus and everyone being short-staffed, but this was beyond compassionate nursing...this was compassionate humanity. I will be forever grateful to her, and I may be my husband's angel (according to her), but at that moment, she was my angel!
