Deb is such a warm and compassionate person that even the toughest visits are calmed by her presence. I have been a patient of Dr. T for many years, and I always smile when Deb walks into the room as our nurse. The one time that stands out above the rest is when my 4-year-old granddaughter's earring was embedded in her ear and had to be surgically removed. I was feeling overwhelmed, guilty, and emotional about the situation. She touched my hand and told me everything would be okay, reassuring me that she would be there to cuddle and care for our granddaughter as she went through the process. She was our guardian angel that day, gently holding our granddaughter and sweetly talking to her throughout the minor surgery. She calmed my fears, she calmed my granddaughter's fears, and she helped me leave without feeling as though we were a number or just another patient. We were her priority and left feeling as though we were her reason for the day.
That is only one of many occasions she has been our guardian angel. She is easy to talk to and listens intently, determined to understand and care for us, one-to-one, in the best way possible. She has helped with immunizations for our two grandchildren when they were skeptical and afraid. It is not difficult to take them to Dr. T's office because of the relationship and trust both Dr. T and Deb have built with them. What a wonderful gift to grandparents raising their grandchildren, to know that going to the doctor will be one less stressor. Knowing that they are there when we need them, in a prompt manner, and that we will be cared for personally and professionally, provides a sense of security and peace.
Deb's compassion, caring, warmth and cheerful personality have helped us through many visits, both routine and difficult. She embodies the values of Sanford with the courage to step into difficult situations, passion for people and for the work of health and healing, resolve to provide the best care possible, and making patients feel like part of the Sanford family. We are thankful to Sanford for having employees who care.
