Deborah walks into every situation with an air of calm and confidence.
This isn't a story of just one incident. This is a story of a lifetime of dedication and care. Deborah has been working at Skagit Valley Hospital for 45 years. For most of that time, she has been on the IV Therapy team. Working in IV Therapy, a very small department (only five of us with an FTE and two per diem RNs), she quietly answers calls, responds to desperate nurses who can't find a line, and patients who are tired of "being poked". Deborah walks into every situation with an air of calm and confidence; she sets her patients at ease and takes the time to educate her coworkers with kindness. I have witnessed her time and again helping new resident doctors as they learn to place central lines, calmly guiding them through the steps and encouraging them as they master this new skill. I have never had a charge nurse who has cared so deeply for their team, she takes the time to educate each of us, encourage us, she is available for questions at any time of the day or night. She is so absolutely incredible as a leader and coworker; I am truly blessed to have her guidance in our niche specialty.
There are many patients who come into the hospital and ask for Debbie by name; she has made such a huge impact not only in their previous hospital stays, but in their lives. Sometimes, a single experience with an IV placement has the biggest impact on a patient, their stay in the hospital, and their recovery overall. Deborah is that difference; she helps to make patients' stays less painful, less stressful, and more geared towards healing. I am proud to work with her and so very glad to have her leading our team.
