Being a nurse myself, I wanted to help, and she was so gentle and professional with me, allowing me to be his daughter and step out of the nurse role.
I brought my dad into the ER on a Saturday afternoon. I pulled up in the Ambulance Bay in front of the ER, and I went in to get a wheelchair; she immediately came out to help me get him out of the car. Everything was a whirlwind from that moment on. I had no idea how bad my dad was, Deb immediately recognized he was in trouble with his heart, did an EKG and realized he was in Afib with RVR. Working alongside the doctor, Deb took care of my dad's personal needs while taking care of his medical needs. Being a nurse myself, I wanted to help, and she was so gentle and professional with me, allowing me to be his daughter and step out of the nurse role. This meant more to me than I could ever express. 4 hours after arriving in the ER my dad was stable and settled in the ICU. Deb is a PRN nurse in the ED. She wasn't scheduled to work that day but called to see if they needed help and when she realized they were short staffed she came in. I will be forever grateful to her for taking care of my dad. Her professionalism and dedication to our veterans are evident in everything she does, and she is so deserving of this award.
