My mom just had a bone marrow transplant here at the BMTU at UMass. It has been quite the last couple of months for her. She is here for the next two weeks after the stem cell transfusion. During the transfusion on Friday, it was a rough time for her. She had an excessive amount of bags of stem cells due to low counts she had when collected. During the transfusion, she had a hard time and had difficulty breathing and panic attacks, and our wonderful RN, Deb Pressey, kept her calm and laughing as much as possible. She was dancing and keeping her mind occupied while trying to keep up with the 13 bags of stem cells, changing them out constantly. Deb did wonderfully, keeping up with six hours straight of the transfusion and keeping my room spinning as much as possible. Also, she has been here ever since. I wonder if she goes home. Very dedicated and wonderful with patients. Thank you, and keep up the good work and dedication you all gave to us patients!
