Deborah Smith 2025, RN

I am nominating Deb for her unwavering dedication, compassion, and the profound impact she has on our veterans in crisis. Recently, we had a veteran struggling with severe mental health challenges, frequently placed on hold due to dangerous self-harm. His case was so unique and urgent! What stood out in this situation was Deb. She didn’t just wait for him to be transferred; she came to him. She sat with him one-on-one, speaking with a level of respect and understanding that was rare and deeply meaningful. You could see in her every word and action that she genuinely cared. This wasn’t just a job for her; it was a mission. As a veteran herself, Deb carries a level of empathy that cannot be taught. She connects with these veterans in a way that makes them feel seen, valued, and safe. She doesn’t just treat symptoms, she treats the person, and that makes all the difference. Deborah’s commitment to her patients and her willingness to go above and beyond exemplify what it means to serve with heart and purpose. For these reasons and many more, I wholeheartedly nominate her.
