July 2026 Honoree
Debra Blowers, RN
Deb was my nurse when I had to go to the E.R. after surgery complications. I had issues for 12 days after surgery getting anyone to help me or listen. I had to go to the E.R. to get help. She was the best and made my whole E.R. experience turn around. I was in so much pain, I could not sit. When she walked in to get my vitals, I was standing. I said, “Deb, I can sit or whatever you need from me so I can get help.” She was standing right by my side and said, “You be how you need to be, and I will work around you.” She got my vitals with me standing. The doc ordered pain meds, and she warned me the mix would hit me fast, and it did, but also brought on a panic attack. She ran right back in the room, laid me down, and got me a towel for my head; she was phenomenal. I cannot say how much kindness and compassion matter when you, as a patient, are terrified and in pain. Deb was a real-life angel for me that day, and it meant the whole world to me. She is one of the very best, and Essentia Health is so lucky to have her! Please, someone, tell Debra Blowers in Brainerd SJMC E.R. how much she means to me and how she changed my experience to be such a positive, great one.
Thank you, Debra, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
