Debra Gifford is an Extraordinary Nurse for several reasons. She is compassionate, kind, caring, humble, and patient-centered. If any time-consuming work needs to be completed that no one else would jump on with interest, Debra will be the first and sometimes the only nurse who will say "I'll do it! Just show me how!" She comes to my office with ideas of what we can do better for our patients. For example, for our CCS backlog, she took the initiative to print out all the e-Consults (over a thousand), distributed some to the other MAs and some for herself, and diligently worked on eliminating the duplicate requests to trim down the list and then call patients to book their cervical cancer screening. She is one of the LVNs who will scrub her schedule to identify who will need STD testing (Gonorrhea/Chlamydia), as well as HPV, Tdap, Flu, and now COVID vaccines, so patients will get what they need at their visit. She does all this while performing her primary role as LVN, giving injections, and attending to BP checks and wound care for patients. Debra is always thinking of ways to improve performance and efficiency. Something as simple as adding the BUMP (Prenatal Program Workflow) Clinicians to the Scope of Practice grid, so staff have access to this information. She is not just an Extraordinary Nurse who values looking out for her co-workers and her patients, she is also an amazing and wonderful person who is full of goodness, sincerity, and selflessness. You can see why Debra is much loved and respected in the department.
