I admire Deb's strength, perseverance, “go-get-em” attitude coupled with a warmth that I can only describe as the generosity of spirit.
I had the pleasure of having Deb as my primary nighttime nurse during a particularly difficult and frustrating admission with pancreatitis. Her no-nonsense approach to my care, coupled with her caring and respectful nature, made me feel hopeful and willing to keep trying despite many ups and many more downs. She put up with my whining but was able to appeal to my fighting attitude by always thinking outside of the box and was not afraid to advocate for me even when others were happy to just go with the flow. It’s as if she had known me my whole life. She knew that coddling me would only stifle my want to curl up in a ball and give up. She took my ideas and input and we worked as a team to come up with plans that made sense to me as opposed to telling me what I needed and when.

Debra did not judge or “write me off” as being over-emotional during periods of pain, and she advocated for me. She always went out of her way even when clearly, she had her hands full with other patients and pressures of the job. Her “let’s get this figured out no matter what” attitude inspired me to be brave and keep trying. She had inspired me to not only fight this illness but as a person in life. I admire her strength, perseverance, “go-get-em” attitude coupled with a warmth that I can only describe as the generosity of spirit. I hope that once she retires, she is blessed with all of the amazing things that the world outside of the hospital has to offer and travels to see everything she has yet to experience so far. She had made a huge impact on me both physically and spiritually and will forever hold a special place in my heart and mind.
