Ms. Deborah Smith has been an integral part of my success here at Chamberlain. She has been able to not only identify with me as a student but also as an individual assisting me in the Center of Academic Success. Beyond academics Ms. Smith took the time to know me as a person while relating life experiences of mine to reinforce nursing concepts this assures me that she truly cares. The Center of Academic Success has been a place that I have frequented but not because I forced to but because Ms. Smith has made it a welcoming place to learn and grow in understanding concepts of nursing practice. Ms. Smith has also been a role model for me as to how I aspire to conduct myself as professional nurse. Ms. Smith is able to effectively discuss her own professional and personal experiences in medicine in a respectful way that has facilitated my learning. Additionally, being a minority student here a Chamberlain College of Nursing Ms. Smith has been someone that has continuously supported my ambitions and efforts with encouraging advice on how to approach various situations. Through interactions with Ms. Smith I believe that not only my nursing career but my life with forever be positively impacted. Ms. Smith is dedicated to the success of the students she serves. As she continues to exhibit all the qualities of an excellent nursing educator I am confident that the DAISY Faculty Award Committee will agree that Ms. Deborah Smith represents both the values and mission of the DAISY foundation in addition to Chamberlain College of Nursing. Another student said: Deb Smith is the glue that holds the Phoenix campus together. She has been the most constant and helpful instructor throughout this program. Ms. Smith has offered to do review sessions and to keep her door open for all students. Personally, I have been seeing Deb at least four times a session for the last 8 months. I have never received anything less than a B+ with her help. She uses alternative methods for teaching including lecturing, pictures, and personal examples from her days as an Emergency Department nurse at the top Arizona trauma center. I can also speak for myself and my classmates when I say that Deb Smith is the bright light during every session and an individual that truly wants each and every person to reach their potential as a great nurse. We do not believe she gets enough recognition for her hard work and the countless students she has taken from average to extraordinary simply by believing in their potential.
