Debra's quick action and experience meant survival when his life was threatened.
My husband was a patient on the 5th floor Medical/Oncology floor. Debra Ward was an RN who gave extraordinary care to him. Debra was ALWAYS bubbly and like a breath of fresh air when she would enter his room. No matter how sick he felt, her personality lifted his spirits as well as his family in the room. He was dealing with sepsis and on a couple of days he had serious problems when attempting to use the bathroom or shower. On both occasions, the Rapid Response Team was called since his vital plummeted. Debra's quick action and experience meant survival when his life was threatened. He also was dealing with a lot of constipation and gas. When he found it too difficult to go to the bathroom, she encouraged him to go ahead and let "poop-a-palooza" happen right there in the bed. She loved that word and would sort of giggle when she said it. She would tell him they had lots of bed linens so don't worry about any mess, just be successful. She would always make sure he was clean and comfortable after having bowel accidents. On one particular day, it was close to 7 pm and she repeatedly told him to go ahead and "go" in the bed if he needed to, that she would not leave him dirty just because it was the end of her shift. Debra went above and beyond in caring for her patients and assisting family members. PVH is better because of Debra. She must be an inspiration to the entire staff as they witness her nursing skill and personality. We were blessed beyond measure to have had her care for my husband. Thank you, Debra, we will always think of you when we see a daisy flower, knowing you now have ANOTHER DAISY!
