Dee promptly recognized that these symptoms could be serious and made sure to contact me in Team Red.
Dee was covering the WHC this week, and a 49-year-old Female veteran called with some symptoms of a faster heartbeat and mild shortness of breath. The Veteran had just returned from vacation and felt it was likely from not being active in the gym lately and was not making much of her symptoms. Dee promptly recognized that these could be serious and made sure to contact me in Team Red. Given the risk, I agreed with ER evaluation, and this was communicated to the patient promptly. The Veteran was found to have several potentially life-threatening blood clots in the lungs and was given immediate appropriate therapy in the ER. Dee did a great job practicing HRO principles of patient safety first.
