During the Pandemic, I went into early labor and had my son at 28 weeks. After being discharged it was very stressful with 4 other children at home having no one to leave them with along with my husband working, I rarely had time to come visit. I was also worried about if I came in contact with someone maybe at the grocery store or gas station. So finally, after a few days I was able to come to see him. I walked in his room and right behind me walks in a woman with a huge radiating smile and right away her presence shifted my spirit. With a deep southern accent and a little voice full of joy, she asks if I was mom and I wanted to hold him, after introducing herself. She could tell I was hesitant, she was so encouraging and lovely. This wasn't the first day I had come to see him it was just such a big gap in my visits. But it felt like my first time. I changed his diaper (he was in the giraffe) and gave him hard hugs while she got things ready for us to do skin to skin. I explained to her I didn't have a lot of time just like 30 min or so. She was so wholesome as she glided through the room having a great conversation with me not having to stop his care. It was as if we were family catching up in the kitchen, cooking a meal to sit and eat, even though we were in the hospital but that's just how genuine our encounter was. I forgot all about the virus and the children at home even the fact he was a preemie and the labor I just went through. She put me in the moment of peace for 30 min to 1 hr. It was almost therapeutic the way she handled him and talked to him, one would have thought he was kin to her. I could tell it wasn't an act because I was there. What I loved most is that she was doing all this with us she never forgot her other patients. After she had us all squared and comfortable she said "well I have to go check on my other babies" so blissfully, after giving me a call button and added if I needed anything to push the button. I'm just smiling as I'm writing this remembering the experience, she brought light to me in a dark time.
Deiadra was Angelic and it will never be forgotten. I will relay this experience to my baby over and over. It will be a story he'll know verbatim by age 5. I saw Deiadra many times after that day even the day of discharge. She is every bit of the word pleasant, and the epitome of a Virtuous Woman and exceptional nurse. It's great and imperative to have schooling and experience but it is essential to be a Nurse that comes with care.
