It is a very difficult task dealing with patients who have abruptly had their lives changed by stroke, and this carries a fair degree of stress, and a great deal of compassion is required.
I wish to nominate Deirdre Broadby for a Daisy Award (she is working through ward 7A and other areas of the hospital with officed in Dept Neurophysiology 3C). Deirdre has been the RHH stroke CNC for many years and, in this role, is responsible for the education of patients who have suffered a stroke and their families and is a clinical lead on the stroke ward. It is a very difficult task dealing with patients who have abruptly had their lives changed by stroke, and this carries a fair degree of stress, and a great deal of compassion is required. Deirdre is ceaseless in her patience and caring and ever helpful to patients and their families and staff. Speaking with patients after she has seen them shows they are much better informed and at ease with the processes of stroke recovery. In a broader sense, she puts a lot of time and effort into maintaining Tasmania’s stroke registry data, which allows for better planning of services and improvements in care offered, and she is also a highly regarded staff educator around stroke prevention and management. It would be my pleasure and honour to nominate Deirdre for this award.
