I became a patient after unexpectedly delivering my baby at home. Although a home birth was never the plan, my newborn son and I received care at the hospital. My husband, mom, and sister were there to support me and were checked in at the hospital as well.

While we were celebrating the new life of my newborn, my sister suddenly passed out and, tragically, passed away in the Labor and Delivery lobby just a few hours later.

Deja was my nurse that day. Not only was she a phenomenal nurse to me, but she also helped my sister as much as she could, alongside Gina, the security officer.

While that was one of the best, yet worst, days of my life, Deja went above and beyond to make sure I was okay emotionally and physically. She stayed right beside me and showed genuine concern for my family during the loss of my sister.

I will never forget Deja. She was the absolute best nurse I’ve ever had in my life. She worked overtime, made sure I was okay, and cared for my newborn at the same time.

Words can’t express how grateful my family and I were to have Deja there to take care of me and my newborn while also supporting us through the loss of my sister within just a few hours of arriving at the hospital. She was sympathetic, patient, and went above and beyond to let me and my family know that she was there for us.

While we were in the Emergency Room grieving the loss of my sister, Deja made sure that our son received the best care until my husband and I came back to the room.

She became like a member of my family during those two and a half days. Even though we were celebrating the birth of our son while grieving the loss of my sister, I wouldn’t have been able to get through any of it without the exceptional acts of kindness Deja showed us.
