They immediately asked what they could do to help.
This nurse was my admitting nurse, and I had them again the following day. They were so above and beyond! They were patient, honest, attentive, and helpful. They listened to me and advocated for me when others hadn't. They went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable, and even my visitor. I was in a lot of pain, but they didn't let that stop him. I hope that if I ever need to return, I'll have them as a nurse.

This nurse was the nurse for my boyfriend. He was admitted from the ER and was in a lot of pain. Most people, when they see a man of his size in pain, and it appears as anger, they get fearful. They back away. They keep their distance, understandably so. But not this nurse. They immediately asked what they could do to help. They asked him to describe the pain. They were patient and asked questions to ensure they fully understood the issue. This nurse didn't lie either; they were honest in their answers. They told us they would contact the Physician, but it was ultimately up to them. They made the calls necessary to get my boyfriend's peace of mind by getting the X-ray redone. They weren’t just an employee with a patient, they were a human helping a human. I'd nominate this nurse a thousand times over, and I'm truly blessed we had them on the unit. They even consistently made sure I was okay as a visitor. I mean, if their job was to do 5 things, this person did 27. They are a great example of the compassion nursing is all about, and the only reason my boyfriend didn't leave to get a 2nd opinion from another hospital elsewhere. They actually helped his pain when nothing else would, telling him to apply pressure with a pillow when he coughed. It was the only thing that got him any relief.
