Mom referred to Delacie as her baby and told her so. She NEVER does that, but truly fell in love with Delacie. That reassured me that as serious as my mother's condition was, she was in the best of care.
These two nurses at East Jefferson General Hospital went above and beyond our expectations in ensuring my mother (77) and I were aware of everything that was going on with her bleeding brain and what tests were given, why, and results when simply mentioning the test that was given that day. It really put my mind at ease knowing what was going on and possibly the next steps. They both ALWAYS offered to do anything that they know is not in a Registered Nurse's job description. For that alone, I could see that they took pride in caring for my mother. Anything from getting a spoon to contacting the doctor to answer questions; no task was too small or large for them. Every question we had was thoroughly answered with language that wasn't above or below our understanding. Every time a bell, alarm (bed), or whistle went off because of my mother's movement or something needed to be changed, they were there. I almost felt they had no other patients, and my mom was the only one on their shifts. There's no comparison to their counterparts at the other two hospitals mentioned. They weren't just caregivers; they put you at ease while making you feel truly cared for by angels. Before anything could be requested, they were there as if they could read minds. I have had my share of stays in hospitals, but I have never been treated the way Desiree and Delacie from the Neuro-Stepdown Unit treated my mother. Mom referred to Delacie as her baby and told her so. She NEVER does that, but truly fell in love with Delacie. That reassured me that as serious as my mother's condition was, she was in the best of care. Their professionalism, as well as their kindness and sense of humor, made an unnerving and concerning stay at East Jefferson comforting. I normally don't leave my mother's side in any hospital, but this time I felt so at ease with the day and night nurses (Desiree and Delacie) that could leave and know that she was in great hands. If I could give these two angels on earth literal wings, I would. If by chance, and I hope not, there's a need to go and stay at a hospital, it would be East Jefferson, and I pray I would get Nurse Desiree and/or Delacie. Kudos to East Jefferson General Hospital for having such outstanding, knowledgeable, compassionate, and loving nurses.
