Della is being honored as a DAISY Award recipient for arranging a birthday celebration for a mentally challenged patient.
In addition to being such a competent, knowledgeable and well-experienced nurse, Della touched me deeply when she bought a toy to present to a mentally challenged patient on his birthday. She gathered all the staff who were working on the unit that day to sing Happy Birthday. His face lit up with a big smile when he saw the gift and heard us singing. It was the first time we had ever seen this young man smile.
Della also made sure the patient got a slice of cheesecake with his lunch tray.
Della is well overdue for receiving the Daisy Award. She demonstrates outstanding compassionate care that embodies the Saint Agnes mission to care for the body, mind and spirit.
