A patient's wife explained how her husband was sent to the hospital by ambulance. By the time they arrived, her husband had a temperature of 106 degrees and very low oxygen. Due to a previous surgery and removal of most of her husband's pituitary gland, this made her husband very sick. Della oversaw her husband for 3 days while he was in MICU. It was frightening for the wife to see tubes in her husband and machines all around his bed. Machines were breathing for him while he was in deep sleep. Occasionally he would begin to feel the tube in his throat and panic. His hands were tied down because of this. Della, with her sweet voice and soft touch to his chest, would reassure the patient telling him that he was in the hospital, in a safe place, she was his nurse, and she was taking good care of him; he just needed to relax. He would very quickly respond to her voice. She was so reassuring, even to the patient's wife, so much so that she could go home and get a good night's rest knowing he was in excellent care.

Thank you, Della, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
