Delores provided excellent patient care to me. She performed all duties of her job with the utmost professionalism, care, and compassion but she did much more than this. She went above and beyond to secure my comfort and that of my family. After two days at my bedside without a shower, Delores made it possible for my sister to get a shower. That seems like something small but, to us, it was huge and well beyond the duties of her job.
I was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma and have undergone multiple surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy. My cancer has advanced and I am now working with palliative care. Dealing with these changes have been emotionally taxing but Delores always had time to listen and offer encouragement. Additionally, Delores engaged in conversations about my goals and needs. She followed through to facilitate the management of my pain. Although she performed these duties as part of her job, she was relentless until the goal was achieved. Delores treated me and my family with great respect. When she left after her last shift with me, she hugged both me and my sister. She told us she honored to care for us. That again is above and beyond any expectation of the registered nurse and made a tremendous, positive impact on me. Please consider this extraordinary nurse for your DAISY Award. Delores is more than deserving and I suspect she has touched the lives of many patients.
