Demetrias saw me and hugged me and made me feel so good to be my mom’s nurse.
First of all, I am an RN and also a patient’s family member (daughter and POA). I am very familiar with the DAISY Award and I am taking this opportunity to deeply appreciate the compassion shown to my mom and our entire family. I and my family (ten siblings and grandchildren) appreciate the care and compassion of the entire SICU/CICU, but in particular of Demetrias, and would like to nominate her for this DAISY Healers Touch Award.

My mom has been admitted to the hospital for shortness of breath (SOB) and diagnosed with pneumonia. Since she is 83 years old, she has been having a hard time getting well. Demetrias has been my mom's nurse many times now and she has been so compassionate with my mom's care and tremendously attentive to her needs. And even though she has other patients, she always takes time from her busy shift to attend to my siblings' needs and questions, and concerns. She does not only attend to our questions or concerns, she does it with empathy and always makes me and my family (sibling) at ease.

Sometimes even when she is not assigned to my mom, she still sees me coming and comforts me and my family. She offers herself for anything we need. Since I am the POA, she called me to tell me to “call everybody because your mom’s not doing well.” We got to the hospital and since my mom is DNR/DNI we were all there very distressed. She was there comforting us. I didn’t ask for anything, I was just feeling very sad. Demetrias saw me and hugged me and made me feel so good to be my mom’s nurse. Demetrias didn’t say anything but saw my sadness and she called pastoral care services and came to the room and helped tremendously. My mom is still in the hospital, but we don’t want to miss this opportunity to show our deep appreciation for your excellent nurses for their love and care and for Demetrias for going above and beyond for the well-being and love of her patients. Thank you to the SICU and CICU Units. Thank you!
