Dena's deep experience as a researcher and faculty member is an asset, but her compassion, integrity, and sage advice are unparalleled. She is a fierce advocate of equity and inclusion and one of the few faculty we have who has made critical theory and health equity research the focus of her career; importantly, she imparts that passion when she is teaching. She treats her students and mentees with the utmost respect and tremendous encouragement and support, meeting each student where they're at and giving individualized feedback. She's a remarkable role model for how to balance scholarship, leadership, and teaching.
