Denise showed incredible compassion and empathy for myself and my parents after we presented to the ED for a drug overdose in the family. Denise and the rest of the healthcare team not only allowed my family member to recover in the department while seeking next steps (vs kicking him out), but she also sat down with us an hour after her shift to share her story, offer compassion, and even provide recommendations for treatment facilities. I am an EM resident and know how hard it is to go above and beyond sometimes, especially an hour after a long 12-hour shift. I and my parents are so grateful she was our nurse that morning. And for the record, the entire nursing and physician staff were wonderful to us!
