April 2024 Honoree
Denise Emerson, BSN, RN
My wife had open heart surgery last week. We were both scared and nervous. We are both on disability. We were too embarrassed to admit it, but I was eating the leftovers from my wife's trays because we didn't have a lot of food. Our car transmission gave out, and we had no car and only a little bit on our EBT card for food. Denise Emerson was an angel.
She not only sat with my wife when she was upset but asked what she was worried about.
She explained the surgery process and, having learned of our transportation issue, arranged transportation for discharge. She also made sure I received a guest tray when she found out I wasn't eating and made sure that we had snacks and food available.
My wife wasn't worried about me and able to focus on her recovery. She checked on us after the surgery, and this nurse's care has been unbelievable.
She is one of a kind.
