While thinking about a nurse who is well deserving of the DAISY Award, Denise Gonez immediately came to mind. She is a clinical coordinator in Voyager Region 2. Recently one of our patients received a new diagnosis of diabetes. She recognized the patient was struggling with their diagnosis and wanted to help in any way possible. She learned the patient did not have adequate supplies to self-monitor their blood sugar at home. She assisted the patient with finding an affordable option so they can get their necessary supplies. Denise also looped in the social worker and APRN that facilitated communication with the patient’s endocrinology office so vital appointments were not missed. She also collaborated with the social worker and assisted with the patient’s transportation needs. Denise’s actions supported the patient during a time when the patient was not able to help themselves. Denise often goes above and beyond for her patients, this was just one scenario to highlight. I am proud to say her compassionate care makes a difference every day in the clinic. Thank you.
