I knew when I could not sit with my mom, she would be in excellent hands as long as Denise was her nurse.
My mother was a patient for 4 weeks in Denise’s unit and I got to know her well during that time. Denise had a medical incident that inspired her to leave her corporate career and make a later in life change to become an RN. She stands out because she recognized that although my mom's body was disabled, her mind was not, and Denise’s care of my mother was exceptional. She went out of her way to provide excellent care and comfort to my mom. She saw certain things that are often overlooked were done, like brushing my mom's teeth or washing her face. She even held her hand and really listened to her. I knew when I could not sit with my mom, she would be in excellent hands as long as Denise was her nurse. She would be checked on and repositioned in a timely manner, so her bedsore didn't grow any worse. She would keep her clean and closely monitor the sound of her lungs. My mom survived her stay not just physically but emotionally largely because of her excellent care. Denise is called to this role, and she is a fine example to those around her.
