Without hesitation, Denise sized up the situation and quickly changed the bed for us, making my son laugh and giggle throughout the whole event.
We were admitted to 9N overnight after two separate emergency room visits. It was not anticipated, the emergency room or having to stay the night. My son, J, had an eye injury that required a specialist.

It was late after 10pm. My son who is 3 years old has not been allowed to eat since 2 pm, in case of surgery or sedation. I was still dressed from work, with some small areas of dried blood on my clothes. I had nothing with me.

Our nurse introduced herself as "I'm Denise. I will be your nurse for the next hour." I wasn't expecting much to be honest. It was late, I had already experienced the ER to ER shuffle, the waiting and the delays but when we entered that room, we were met with a friendly understanding smile.

Denise quickly got my son's antibiotic restarted (which had been put on hold when we left the emergency room) and got us settled while playing and interacting with J at his 3-year-old level. He had a pile of snacks in front of him with an apology of "what was available at this time of night." My son couldn't have been happier with the little things of peanut butter, graham crackers, chocolate pudding, cheese sticks, and apple juice.

Before I could think to ask- I was handed a pair of hospital pants and a shapeless paper shirt "to sleep in." I was so stressed about my phone at 3% battery, but Denise patiently went and found 4 chargers and brought them and tried them all until it worked. I am sure in the last 30 minutes of her long day that my lack of a phone charger was not her top priority but you would not have known it.

Minutes after getting us settled and turning the lights down at 11 p.m., my son spilled his water and juice all over the bed. Without hesitation, Denise sized up the situation and quickly changed the bed for us, making my son laugh and giggle throughout the whole event.

We got to go home the next day after having his eye fixed, and we never got to say THANK YOU!
