I am the mom of a very difficult patient. My son came to the ISC for his 4th shoulder surgery. He has been through this difficult procedure 3 times and to the emergency room numerous others. In his short 21 years, he has encountered many care providers. My son has ADHD and a severe anxiety disorder. He is petrified of IVs even though he has had numerous ones. Many providers think he is old enough to just "suck it up" and be brave. But his anxiety encompasses his world and every thought. Denise was by far the best RN that has ever cared for my son. She was empathetic and caring in a way that brought tears to my eyes as I witnessed it. Most people don't understand my child, but she did. He talked about her all the next day. To build a connection with my son is a very difficult thing to do, but she did it in a very short period of time. I can't express my gratitude for Denise.
