A very busy time on the unit. Many of us not having lunch break. Supervisor even sent us sandwiches down. I had a post-partum patient that was sent over from her OB office for elevated blood pressures. This patient was stuck 3 times for an IV and then 4-5 times by different people, including lab tech, in an attempt to draw labs, which were never obtained. I was pushing hydralzine while others were trying to obtain these labs. After her second dose of hydralazine, Denise told me to go get something to eat and she would look out for her. I came back a few minutes later to check the pressure for the next dose and the patient had had enough with being stuck and was wanting to leave AMA and see her primary care in the morning for medication adjustment. Her pressure had climbed to 183/124. Denise went into the room with her while I was consulting with the hospitalist and with her OB to have her admitted. Denise stayed with the patient at her bedside and consoled her and talked to her about the seriousness of her situation and the need to be admitted. Her OB also spoke with her on the phone after I told her how upset the patient was and convinced her to be admitted. Denise then volunteered to start her Mag while I finished my quick lunch. She was a superstar and helped us save this patient from a potentially terrible outcome. Thank you, Denise. You Rock!
