Throughout the procedure, she kept encouraging me and kept telling me that I could do it even though I was scared.
Last year, I went through a very traumatic IUD insertion that left me with PTSD with basically anything related to my gynecological health. That IUD was causing me several issues, and I needed it replaced with the model I had previously. From the beginning of my appointment, I was crying and scared of the pain of the procedure because of the memory from my last insertion. I was in a full panic attack when the doctor came into the room. She called in Denise Ventura to help, and they were both so patient and understanding with me. Right before we started what I knew was going to be the worst part of the procedure, we took a break to let me calm down. Denise let me hold her hand and I told her a story I had heard years ago that stuck with me, along with the phrase "do it scared". Denise was so attentive and listened to the story. Before we started the procedure, she gave me a skin pen and told me to write the phrase on my hand to remind me that I could get through this. Throughout the procedure, she kept encouraging me and kept telling me that I could do it even though I was scared. They even let me sit in the procedure room for almost 20 minutes to collect myself afterward. Denise was patient and kind. I will never forget her. Thankfully, the procedure went smoothly, and the pain wasn’t nearly as bad as the last time. But mentally, I was scarred by the memory of the pain from before which was so vivid in my mind. Denise and my doctor are the reason I went through with it.
