G had a massive hemorrhagic stroke. After 2 weeks in a coma in the Neuro ICU (fabulous staff there as well!!) and exactly two weeks in acute care on 3 West, G spent the remaining time on 4 West/Trauma Rehab. I truly cannot think of one single bad thing to say about 4 West and the staff there, especially Derek. G is typically a tad shy and "standoffish" whereas I am more outgoing, but this time, G took to Derek immediately and G absolutely adored (still adores) him. He had an almost constant smile (Derek, well, AND G too!!) And Derek always encouraged us and made G feel important and happy during the scariest and darkest time of our lives. Derek on 4West is everything a nurse should be and more. Thank you so much, Derek and ALL of Harborview. G and I are forever touched by your kindness and grace.

Derek is so positive and upbeat with patients and therapists alike. He goes the extra mile to help patients and is always open to giving and receiving input/recommendations with therapists. It's clear to everyone who works with Derek that he takes pride in the work he does and that he truly cares about patients and staff!
