March 2026 Honoree
Derek Charlier, RN
During my mom’s recent visits to the Boardman ER, we were fortunate to have Derek as her nurse. From the moment he entered the room, Derek had a calming presence that immediately put our entire family at ease. He exemplified kindness and humility while showing a quiet confidence that made us feel safe and cared for in an otherwise frightening situation. My mom had been admitted earlier in the week and was unfortunately discharged too soon. When we returned to the ER, we were anxious and worried because we knew the treatment wasn’t working. Derek went above and beyond to keep us both calm and informed. He explained everything in a way we could understand, never rushed us, and treated my mom with compassion that truly stood out. What really touched us most was a simple but unforgettable moment when Derek started humming Christmas songs. Our family loves Christmas, and hearing those familiar tunes instantly brought smiles to all our faces, even my mom's, which felt like a small miracle in that moment. Derek was a blessing to us in the ER. His kindness, gentle confidence, and ability to bring light into a difficult situation are what set him apart. He goes above and beyond what a nurse should do, and for that, he absolutely deserves to be recognized with a DAISY Award. If you see Derek, please congratulate her on receiving the DAISY Award!
Thank you, Derek, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
