When you first go into a situation, whether it be work, marriage, or a hospital, the way you are treated has a lot to do with your success. Derek Kirby met me with compassion that was real, kind words, and a pat on the back. He went over and beyond his duty. When you do this, it is called true caring. He was superb in filling all my needs; he is young but already he could give some good lessons. He would go into another patient's room and say, "I'll be right back and back," and back he was. He never lost his warmth; I lost my fear immediately. I'm sure he will go far, and I hope nothing, nor nobody, gets in his way. At his shift change he didn't hurry out; Derek made sure I was ok.
